Bridging the gap, from crisis to resolution

We made the news! Our Rachel Ware spoke at the Baytown Youth Action Committee Forum on Monday night at the Community Center. It was front page news in the Baytown Sun on Tuesday,  February 6, 2007. It's a big article and two columns were just on Rachel's speech. We hear that the Houston Chronicle wants to do a follow-up on us as well.
Two life victories in the news the week of February 19th were addressed in the Feb. 24th Center Update:

...In the news this week, there is a 22 week-old baby who is called the Miracle Baby because she is surviving and is healthy in spite of being so premature. It is causing no small stir and is making some States reconsider their abortion laws of what the gestational limits should be. Several States have either 24 or 26 weeks as the latest that an abortion can be performed.

...If you’ve been watching the newsstands lately, you’ll see a picture of the little fetal models that we use in our Center on the front cover of Time Magazine this week. There is a 6 page article about Pregnancy Centers and Planned Parenthood. I have to hand it to Time Magazine, they were quite objective in their coverage… But in spite of sounding like everyone is getting along so much better, don’t let it confuse you! We’re still in a militant war to win the hearts and souls for the Lord, even if it’s one woman at a time and the Lord is getting the victory!

PRCE in the news...
Right-to-life issues in the news...
On March 24th, 2007 we held our annual Walk For Life. Our bright yellow WFL t-shirts turned heads as we walked the new route down North Main Street, from First Baptist to the PRCE. Afterward, we were treated to a great lunch as the awards and door prizes were given out. With a new route, new program and huge turnout, it's no wonder we made the Baytown Sun the next day!
The Supreme Court ruled in a 5-to-4 decision that a nationwide ban on so-called "partial birth" abortions was legal.

Significantly, this is the first time the Court has intervened to this extent on the medical procedures used in abortion — as opposed to issues of public funding and parental notification, which had littered its docket in the past. The decision has been a major blow to abortion rights activists, who, although they are not surprised by the decision given the conservative majority on the bench today, remain dismayed by the implications.

"This is an invitation for states to pass further restrictions on abortion," National Abortion Federation president and CEO Vicki Saporta told The Nation.

Pro-life Movie Bella Hits Theaters October 26th

A thousand pregnancy center leaders were sitting in a crowded room, crying and laughing as they saw, in the movie playing before their eyes, a beautiful portrayal of the heart of pregnancy center ministry.  In this movie, they watch a man reaching out to his coworker in the midst of her unexpected pregnancy, the outcome being a powerful and artistic message of life, healing, and hope.

These leaders were watching a pre-screening of the upcoming film, Bella, at Care Net's national conference this September.  On October 26th, many more people will have the opportunity to be changed by the message of Bella as it debuts in theatres nationwide.

Study finds big decline in abortions:
U.S. yrly total now 1.2 million, down 25 % from 1990 peak

By STEPHANIE SIMON
Los Angeles Times

The most comprehensive study in years of abortion in America underscores a striking change in the landscape, with ever-fewer pregnant women choosing abortion and those who do increasingly opting to avoid surgical clinics.
